ABOUT THE BOX (1979-1980)

The Box is an inquiry into the mythological and ritualistic activities of captivated royalty. It is a Queen’s domain governed by compressed air and machinery triggered by a Controller and an Assistant to the Future. Two large prawns are present: one is directly linked to the Queen and lays eggs on command; the second Prawn produces cocktails. The Queen relies entirely on the Controller and the Assistant to the Future for her egg production; she manages this delicate transmission after receiving cocktails from a machine sensitive to carbon dioxide, activated by the Controller. The Box existed only as a performance; much of its quality relied on the precise execution and the deterioration of the square dance, which created its ultimate breakdown.
