ABOUT TELISOCITUM TANKAPILIA (1976–77)
A play in three parts for the hypothetical reorganization of the world after it becomes too hot to inhabit. The plot has little dialogue, it was intended to be presented like a silent film, where some 24 different facial cosmetic treatments conveyed moods. Montmorency Mills, a scientist ,was the principle figure, his research into desert fauna lead to the creation of a new species of plant capable of withstanding extreme heat. He developed two animated sculptures to harvest this crop. Tankapilia resembled a tortoise with its shell acted as a solar panel to power its slow and laborious movements–perfect for its agricultural endeavors. Telisocitum had butterfly wings to harness sun and inspect from a vantage point. A manuscript of the symbolic stagings exists with stage sets, drawings, and notebooks.
