BEFORE YOU YOU TELL ME WHAT I DID WRONG, READ THIS.

Listen, I'm not perfect.   I made mistakes.   Here are some of them:

1.) WHY DID YOU GET A FeLV COMBO TEST FOR ALL THE CATS?

I know.   A lot of experienced trappers say not to bother with an FeLV / FIV test.   Neighborhood cats outline some valid reasons.  But there were two reasons I did this.  1) We want to adopt out a bunch of these cats.    2)  One of the kittens had to be put down upon arrival at the clinic.   It seemed to happen overnight.  I filmed her and took photos of her on a Tuesday night she looked just as healthy.  Wednesday we played with her.   Thursday morning - she could barely stand.   Turns out she had panluekopenia.   I bawled my eyes out and told them to test them all.   It was an emotional decision, and it cost a bunch.

2.) REVOLUTION?   REALLY?   THAT WAS UNNECESSARY, WASN'T IT?

It was only for the kittens, and that's because we're going to try to get them all adopted out.  And it was only for the ones with fleas.

3.) UGH, AND THE VACCINE?   WHY'D YOU GET THE VACCINE?

Half emotional freak-out reasons, half-because of this:    Results suggest that exposure to FPV, FHV, and FCV is common among feral cats and that a high proportion of cats are susceptible to RV infection. Feral cats appeared to have an excellent immune response following vaccination at the time of neutering. Incorporation of vaccination into trap-neuter-return programs is likely to protect the health of individual cats and possibly reduce the disease burden in the community. (J Am Vet Med Assoc 2007;230:52–58).

4.) YOU COULDN'T FIND A FRIEND WITH A CAR SO YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO RENT A VAN?

You try finding a person in New York City. who not only owns a vehicle large enough to transport 18 traps yet doesn't have a job so they can drive us during work ours.

5.) WHY THREE RENTALS?

Pick up the traps, transport the cats, drop of the clean traps.

6.) WHY NOT USE THE MAYOR'S ALLIANCE'S "WHEELS OF HOPE" OR THE A'S TRANSPORT?

We planned on it, but when the Brooklyn colony's neighbors threatened to smother the cats in a garbage can, we decided we couldn't wait for availability. Ditto ASPCA's transports.

7.) IF YOU RENTED THE VANS, THEN WHAT'S WITH THE ZIPCAR?

Because the Harlem colony is only 1 mom and 6 kittens, so transporting the traps only requires an SUV, which is cheaper than renting a cargo van.

8.) IF YOU COULDN'T AFFORD IT, THEN WHY DID YOU DO IT?

Because I'm an idiot.
